The First Emotion, as an unconscious function, prefers to stay in the current emotional state as long as possible and weakly reacts to changes in other people’s emotions because it does not track them and is not interested in them. The Introversion property indicates that the First Emotion’s own feelings and emotions are more interesting than those of others. The owner of 1E likes to immerse themselves in their own emotional world. As a subjective function, 1E affects their environment with their emotions, influencing the overall atmosphere, while the owner of 1E themselves are not influenced by anyone else.
Depending on the life attitudes of the owner of the First Emotion, this function can manifest itself differently. There are three main models of behavior for 1E, which we will consider further:
Accentuation: unconsciousness
The First Emotion with this accentuation does not analyze the emotions that they experience. They seem to be pushed out of their attention, and it is difficult for them to regulate their behavior. People with this accentuation cry when they want to cry, laugh when they want to laugh, and no attempts to control these impulses can restrain their emotions. It is difficult to calm such people down or change the direction of their emotions in any way. Emotions stay with them for a long time, and they may become offended if someone tries to make them feel something else. They cannot and do not like to switch emotions because it is difficult for them to track the reasons for their emergence. Unlike the unconscious but low Fourth Emotion, this accentuation of the First Emotion shares their feelings and is not influenced from outside. Owners of 1E with an accentuation on unconsciousness give their emotions more freedom than others.
Accentuation: introversion
This accentuation is characteristic of those who are usually referred to as introverts. These people are immersed in their inner world and are attentive to their emotional state. To others, they may seem like reserved individuals, as they are not inclined to share their experiences with anyone. They enjoy being alone with themselves, their favorite music, a good book or a movie. Such accentuation makes the First Function the least similar to the classical First Function, which explosively expresses its emotions and is noticeable from the first minutes of communication. However, the reluctance to change emotions distinguishes it from the introverted Third Emotion, which is also prone to deeply immersing itself in oneself. Thus, such accentuation makes the First Function the most closed-off.
Accentuation: subjectivity
This accentuation indicates that a person is naturally inclined to form certain emotions within themselves, for example, by remembering something and getting charged with emotions from the memory. People with this accentuation are confident in what they are feeling and strive to share their state with the world. They often engage in creative pursuits, through which they want to influence the feelings of those around them in one way or another. Unlike the subjective Second Function, they are interested in conveying their own emotions rather than discussing others’. Among all the First Functions, this Emotion is the most sociable and inclined to interaction.
