Accentuations of AP-functions

Working on the “Imperative Socionics” project, we have been researching for a long time the question of similarity among representatives of different AP-types. As a result, we discovered an interesting phenomenon: carriers of the same psychosophic functions may exhibit different character traits depending on which properties of the functions are strengthened. For example, for types with the Fourth Volition, we can observe one of three main behavioral models:

1. The owner of 4V drifts with the flow, does not make independent decisions and is subject to any external influences. He is unsure of himself, weak-willed and “lethargic.” In relationships, he is very submissive, has practically no goals of his own, and relies entirely on his partner.

2. He is strongly subject to his own desires, does what comes to mind, and is not inclined to self-restraint. He can be mistaken for 1V, but differs from the latter in his dislike for responsibility. It is difficult for him to make himself do what he intended or promised.

3. He supports those around him, actively interested in their goals and desires, and strives for compromise. He differs from 2V in that he is, first of all, inclined to compromise his own interests and sacrifice himself, and secondly, he does not know how to help in the process of setting a goal, but only in the process of achieving it, when a person already knows what they want. Constant searches and doubts from the other person (usually the owner of 3V) are very exhausting and there is a feeling of the futility of the efforts expended.

Having analyzed this information, we came to the conclusion that the term “accentuation” can be introduced into psychosophy, which will mean the most vivid manifestation of one of the three properties possessed by the function. In the above example with 4V, it can be seen that in the first case, the Objective property (susceptibility to external influences in the sphere of desires and decisions) is most pronounced, in the second case – the Unconscious property (inability to engage in dialogue and compare one’s own desires with others) and in the third case – the Introverted property (interest in other people’s desires, involvement in them).

During our observations and subsequent logical constructions, we also confirmed that this regularity is manifested with any other psychosophical functions and aspects. That is, each of the aspects in the position of each function can be expressed in three possible accentuations, in each of which one of the properties of this function is most strongly expressed. Of course, this does not mean that the function loses its other properties – no, they are still observed and can be typed by them, but they are not too noticeable and do not have such a strong influence on a person’s behavior.

To better understand this concept and identify your own accentuations, we have prepared relevant articles with their descriptions, which can be found at the following links:
