The Third Emotion is a conscious function, therefore its owners pay a lot of attention to their own and other people’s feelings, how they are formed and expressed. As an introverted function, 3E is focused on its own experiences and immersed in its inner world. As an objective function, it is very susceptible to influence. It can be easily hurt, and it cannot handle offense or sadness on its own because it does not control its emotional state. It is also unable to have an emotional impact on others by creating a certain atmosphere in the group. At the same time, it can support general fun if it is “on the same wavelength” with everyone.
There are three adaptive behavioral strategies that Third Emotion owners develop. We will examine them in detail and also discuss the typing errors they are most often associated with:
Accentuation: consciousness
This 3E is more inclined than others to clarify relationships, engage in lengthy heartfelt conversations about feelings, and is quite easy to make contact with, even in the presence of past negative experiences in communication. Owners of this accentuation find it difficult to imagine their life without interacting with other people, and every new relationship brings them pleasant excitement. They like to unravel hints and search for hidden meaning in other people’s words and actions. At the same time, they can exacerbate relationships just to get more emotional impressions. This accentuation of 3E also performs well in art, amateur art, and working with people. It can be mistaken for 2E because the latter is also interested in emotional interaction and is realized in it. However, it should be remembered that 3E, unlike free Second Emotion, is quite restrained, so its feelings and interest in people manifest themselves in the form of short-lived flashes, followed by regret and shame. 3E is afraid to appear inadequate and doubts what impression it made. It should be noted that the Third Emotion accentuated on consciousness can be considered the most communicative and creative.
Accentuation: introversion
This accentuation of 3E is more introverted than others and does not rush to express its emotions to the people around them. When they are in a bad mood, they retreat into their inner world and do not respond much to help. It is very difficult for them to let go of grievances or anger, even if the offender tries to mend the relationship. Time is required to come to terms with the negativity that they had to endure. In a group, this Third Emotion rarely blends into the general mood, usually showing detachment. Like other 3Es, they have emotional outbursts, but they are quite rare. At the same time, they are intense and really impressive. Due to their low willingness to make contact, this accentuation 3E can be mistaken for 1E, but the latter is not prone to thinking about their feelings, whereas the Third Emotion, even without outside help, spends a lot of time introspecting, contemplating how they are perceived by others, what impression they make, and how to deal with their emotions. The principality-accentuated 3E can be called the most closed and restrained of all.
Accentuation: objectivity
This 3E is characterized by external calm and composure. They do not seek attention and do not try to entertain other people – rather, they wait to be amused and provided with bright impressions. This accentuation 3E is complacent in relationships, does not like to argue, and does not create scandals. They have extremely rare emotional outbursts. They also do not tend to accumulate grievances or use emotional manipulations. Usually, they are a pleasant, accommodating person in society, not particularly talkative. Due to the seeming lack of intense emotions and internal conflicts, such a 3E can be easily mistaken for 4E. However, unlike the latter, the Third Emotion, due to its consciousness, is characterized by a romantic perception of the world and shyness, which, according to others, only adds charm to them. This accentuation 3E is the most emotionally stable.
